Bahamas Beachfront Vacation Homes
The houses are located on the leeward side of the island, in secluded coves with beautiful sugar sand beaches. Quiet, secluded and private describe them.
We are located on the north end of the island in a settlement called Bennetts Harbor. The house is 15 minutes from Arthurs Town Airport, a 7500 foot paved runway. There is a $5.00 landing fee. No fuel. Clear customs at Nassau or Eleuthera and refuel. Customs is now available at New Bight, Cat Island, 30 miles south of Arthur's Town.
Cat Island is located approximately 135 miles southeast of Nassau or 25 miles south of Eleuthera. Bahamas Air has flights to our island 4 times a week. Larry Meredith, An American pilot flies daily trips to and from Nassau. You can contact Larry or his wife Carol at 242-342-3018. There are several charter companies which can fly direct to Cat Island. Arrange with our caretaker Trevor to pick you up from the airport. His number is 242-354-1102 or 242-354-6067. His rates vary, please pay him at the time of service.
Constructed of coral limestone, our 2 Bedroom Bennets Harbour Cottage has bath with tub and shower, a wood burning fireplace, ceiling fans and portable fans. Air conditioning is never required. The house is complete with washing machine, dryer, full kitchen, all cooking utensils, linens, towels, blender, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, and an outdoor gas barbecue. There is also a radio/cassette/CD player, and a TV/VCR.
Our 4 Bedroom Bennets Harbour Home is also constructed of local coral limestone. Each bedroom has ceiling fans, and a private bath with tub and shower, and a deck which overlooks the beach. The sound of waves will lull you to sleep each night. The living room is furnished with a wood burning fireplace, TV/VCR, DSS Satellite Dish, CD/Tape player, and a full stock of classical and reggae music. It is also equipped with an outdoor gas barbecue and Hot Tub under the stars.
The kitchen has a dishwasher, family size fridge/freezer with ice and water dispensers. It has a full complement of standard electrical appliances including, blender, toaster, microwave and coffee maker.
All houses come complete with linens, towels and beach towels. There is a washer/dryer and an outdoor clothesline with lots of sunshine and fresh breezes.
A large rainwater cistern supplies your fresh water. Drinking water is chemically treated and filtered. Cat Island has been in a drought for the past 4 years, we ask that you practice water conservation as much as possible.
The Wilson Bay Cottage is also constructed of coral limestone and mahogany salvaged from sunken ships. Its deck overhangs the sea. It is located on a private 20 acre estate, and has its own very private sugar sand beach. Ceiling fans and portable fans are supplied for the rare times when sea breezes drop off. CUTTER and AVON Skin So Soft can be used to control mosquitos and sand flies during the hour around sundown.
World class snorkelling is found off our beaches on pristine, virgin coral reefs. Bring your snorkel gear. None is available on the island. Air tanks and weight belts are readily available for rental.
Some of the natives go fishing every day (weather premitting) and you can usually buy fresh fish from them or you may hire them to take you fishing or diving.
There are stores on the island but a vehicle is required to reach them. Carry as much food as you can from home, because the stores are limited. However, they do carry the best brands of beer, liquor and soda. If you would like to explore the island, vehicles are available for rent.
Cat Islanders are open and friendly. They are totally unspoiled by tourism. Cat Island is for people who are looking for quiet, solitude, beautiful beaches, gin clear ocean, soft white sugar sand and more stars than you thought existed. Local dress code for visitors is shorts and T-shirts at dances, programs and church. Don't pack any dress up clothes, pack groceries instead. Prices for groceries on the island are twice stateside, so carry as much as you can.
Local restaurants are plain fare. Order ahead in the afternoon and your dinner will be ready by sundown. Catch of the day, conch, chicken, souse and peas and rice will not disappoint. Bahamian soul food!
