The Treehouse is a unique home set on a 100 by 700 foot highbank oceanfront lot on the south side of Savary Island. The design takes advantage of the ocean view, the seasonal light, the surrounding forest and the privacy of the site. The construction is post and beam, with floors and trim of solid fir.

The main living area of the house, 1553 sq ft (144 m2), is on upper floor. Ceiling height on this level is 11 to 15 ft. The lower floor is 370 sq ft (34 m2). The Treehouse looks due south. Views sweep from Powell River in the east to Comox/Courtney on Savary Island in the west. Harwood Texada and Denman Islands are all visible from the Treehouse. Wide overhangs allow for maximum passive solar in the winter and shade in the summer. Some of the clearstory windows open, to allow for natural cooling in the summer. Gaulhofer aluminum clad spruce windows with thermal protection glass and triple weather strip system, insulate against cold and noise. Over 1000 sq ft of windows on the main level (including a folding wall of windows in the living area that opens to a span of 13ft by 7 ft) suffuse the interior with light.

A masonry fireplace is highly efficient, very environmentally friendly, and the unit acts as a heat sink, releasing heat to the home slowly. One burn a day in cooler weather is sufficient to keep the home warm. All high end appliances, and most furnishings are included.

The Treehouse is served by: roof mounted solar panels; 24 volt battery system; 12.5 kW Kubota diesel generator with autostart and an Outback inverter/controller. There is a drilled well with Grunfoss soft start pump and 2 pressure tanks, a 400 pound propane system (for fireplace, hot water, range, clothes dryer and BBQ).

A shop 21 x 17.6 ft (367 sq ft or 34 m2) with 15 ft ceilings is preplumbed/prewired to be converted into a guest house with loft area. It also has Gaulhofer windows and a cast iron fireplace. It houses cabinets, table saw, and a full complement of garden, hand and power tools, kayaks and bicycles. A 9 x 13 ft generator shed houses the generator, water tanks, batteries and inverter. Also on the property are a 18 x 27 ft fully fenced garden and a wood shed stocked with more than 3 cords of wood.

Savary Island is 8 km long and 1 km wide, fringed by white sandy beaches and surrounded by the warmest waters in the Pacific Northwest. Located at the gateway to Desolation Sound it is a natural paradise.There are whales, orcas, dolphins, seals and sea lions in the surrounding waters. Salmon, prawns, crab and clams are plentiful. Bald eagles patrol the cliffs. Birds, including ducks, bald eagles, woodpeckers, ravens and hummingbirds are everywhere. Sometimes, the loudest noise is the buzzing of bees. There are no predators on Savary: no bears, cougars, wolves, racoons or rats. The public wharf allows east loading and unloading of boats. There is sheltered moorage available nearby the wharf, and at Mermaid Rock. The boat ramp at Indian Point and the barge ramp at the east end of the island are available for the launching or hauling out of vessels. There are no paved roads or streetlights on Savary. Each house makes its own power from solar panels &/or generator. The aquifer supplies water to the islanders.

Fewer than 50 people live on Savary year round. Most of the year, the population is about 200. In July and August the island swells to 2000 inhabitants. The island is served by the Lund Water Taxi several times a day. Groceries are available in Lund and larger shops can be found in Powell River. Sunshine Organics provides fresh produce to the Savary Wharf weekly, and the Land Taxi will even deliver it to the door.

The island community is supportive of the islanders and visitors. The SIVFD has excellent equipment and dedicated membership providing 24/7 First Responder and Fire Services. There are various social, musical and other activities on island, including SavaryStock, a biannual event hosted by SILT (Savary Island Land Trust) and the Savary Island Fun Triathlon In the summer, the various galleries and cafes open. Several islanders provide services on the island, ranging from house cleaning, property management, yard work, catering, wedding planning and hosting etc. Propane, gas and diesel are all available on island, either delivered (diesel and propane) or picked up from the depot (propane and gas).
